On Nov. 7, El Sistema Somerville, a daily, intensive afterschool orchestra program for Somerville youth, gave a special performance for State Representative Denise Provost at the Edgerly building of the East Somerville Community School. Some intriguing sounds are echoing through the East Somerville Community School.

This week thirty-five young musicians, poised with violins, cellos, violas and basses, played through a simple harmony for Mussorgsky’s “Pictures from an Exhibition”. When finished, they erupted in a small cheer, pleased to have nailed the first ten or so notes.
